Civilizations often choose to remember themselves through their triumphs. More often than not, it is a story of victories rather than defeats, of celebrated rulers rather than flawed leaders. History becomes an instrument of clubbed memories, by preserving the success and triumphs that strengthen national identity while allowing failures to fade into obscurity, but the Torah took a different and unique path.

One of the most remarkable aspects of the Hebrew Bible is not the stories of success it preserves, but the failures it refuses to hide. The Jewish people are not presented as flawless heroes. Their leaders are not portrayed as perfect figures. Instead, some of the most significant narratives in Jewish tradition revolve around mistakes, disobedience, doubt, and moral failure.

Rather than constructing a specific narrative, Judaism preserves some of the most uncomfortable cases in its history with remarkable candour. The holy text does not present the Jewish as infallible or framed its leaders as beyond reproach. Instead,
