THIS. Thoughts on Yom HaShoah

10 0
yesterday

This is what some people tried to do to my people less than a century ago.

This was the reason for the coining of the term “Genocide”, in International law after 45. It was coined precisely to describe this. And nowadays it has been appropriated and weaponized against my people.

This is what some still wish to achieve whether by explicitely referring to this or by enthusiastically singing something about a river and a sea.

This will be forever an unconsolable hole in my heart- and I hope in yours too, just like I know to cry for you, because we are both humans.

This is part of my memory, my history, my destiny.

This is a source of my obligation to fight for the survival my people:

Fighting to remember who we are, fighting to keep our culture alive, fighting for our land if we need to.

But also, and no less:

Fighting to stay ethical and human, including when we have to fight for our survival so that we never become like the ones who did that to us.

This Memory is today’s Calling.
