Time and Time again, we have heard that “Iran will never have a nuclear weapon.” Barack Obama said it. Israel has long said and gone to war over it. Indeed, over 35 countries and the United Nations  have said it in one form or another. Donald Trump has said loudly, recently,  (and inaccurately) that the United States has stopped Iran from developing  nuclear weapons.

Worse, the number of countries which have nuclear weapons has increased dramatically since 1945. At first there were 5 countries which admitted to having them: The United States, The Soviet Union, The United Kingdom, France, and China. It was then, and still is, widely believed that Israel had them, too, though it will neither admit nor  deny that it has/had them. Today, at least three more countries, Pakistan, India, and North Korea can be added to the list of nuclear powers.

The question remains: is the present policy of saying that Iran........
