Farewell International Criminal Court?

A recent newspaper article almost made me spill my morning orange juice.

It was a Wall Street Journal column by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio. “This is only the beginning,” he wrote. “Using all the tools at our government’s disposal, working beside every ally with whom we can make common cause, we will dismantle the ICC—brick by brick if necessary.”

Holy moly, I thought, my faith in newspapers is restored!

He was referring, of course, to the International Criminal Court at The Hague, a body that has received much attention over the years for its many bizarre arrest warrants, including the one issued for Bibi Netanyahu. That focus was enhanced recently by New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s absurd vow–later retracted in a spurious anti-Zionist and arguably antisemitic speech–to arrest Netanyahu when he comes to New York for the United Nations General Assembly in September.

For me, however, that invigorating spurt of joy came from two other major sources. First, Rubio is my newest hero, who I fervently hope will become the next US president. Especially after Vice President JD........
