‘Reckless, dangerous, with grave consequences’: Islamic nations blast US envoy to Tel Aviv for saying Israel has biblical right on Middle East
Arab and Islamic countries, along with three major regional organisations, came together Sunday to strongly condemn the assertion of the US ambassador to Israel that Israel’s control of entire West Asia, including West Bank, was “acceptable”.
The Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), the League of Arab States (LAS), and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) joined chorus with the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Jordan, UAE, Indonesia, Pakistan, Türkiye, Qatar, Kuwait, Oman, Bahrain, Lebanon, Syria, and Palestine to call the statement “dangerous and inflammatory”.
The Foreign Ministry of Saudi Arabia expressed its “strongest condemnation and complete rejection” at the “reckless” assertion of the US ambassador to Israel that Israel’s control of entire West Asia was “acceptable”.
In a statement released on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), the Saudi ministry said: “The Kingdom affirms its categorical rejection of these irresponsible remarks, which constitute a violation of international law, the charter of the United Nations, and established diplomatic norms. Such statements set a dangerous precedent, particularly as they were issued by a US official, and reflect a disregard for the distinguished relations between the countries of the region and the United States of America.”
US ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee, a former Baptist minister and a vociferous supporter of Israel, had suggested Friday on Tucker Carlson podcast that Israel had a biblical right to West Asia.
“It would be fine, if they took it all,” Huckabee had said.
The Saudi Arabian foreign ministry added that Huckabee’s statements were “extremist rhetoric” which portend “grave consequences”.
