In a major political shift, U.S. President Donald Trump signed a stopgap funding bill continuing resolution into law, successfully averting a government shutdown ahead of the November midterm elections.

By a vote of 370-48, the House passed the extension of current spending through December 11 on Tuesday while the Senate passed the measure on August 8.
