Keir Starmer, has announced plans to resign as the UK prime minister and the leader of the Labour Party on Monday, June 22.
The shocking move comes as Starmer was facing the weeks-long mounting pressure from party members on the grounds of worsening political and economic circumstances.
In a press conference at Downing Street Starmer announced, “The question being asked now is not who was best placed to take our party into power. The question my party is asking now is whether I am best placed to lead us into the next general election,”
“I have heard the answer of my parliamentary party to that question. I accept that answer with good grace. I will resign as leader of the Labour Party," he added.
Speaking about the transition of leadership, Starmer asked his National Executive Committee of the Labour Party to make a timetable with nominations.
