Dubai International Airport now employs a low-tech protection scheme for its oil and gas infrastructure that will be instantly familiar to observers of the Ukraine War.
War has “always been the mother of invention,” wrote the historian A.J.P. Taylor in his work about World War I.
More than a century after the Great War, Taylor’s words continue to ring true, as evidenced by the new massive metal cages erected near the Dubai International Airport to protect energy infrastructure from Iranian kamikaze drones.
Dubai International Airport’s Fuel Tanks Are Protected by “Cope Cages”
An image posted on X (formerly Twitter) by the Israeli news outlet I24 News shows what appears to be massive metal cages around fuel tanks near the Dubai International Airport. There are at least three such defensive works, with one in a more complete state than the others.
