In addition to missile manufacturing, L3Harris will provide the Navy’s newest submarines with “low-profile masts”—extendable data collection systems taking the place of traditional periscopes.

The US Navy will pay L3Harris Technologies $139 million contract to produce the low-profile masts (LPM) for its  Virginia‑class and Columbia­-class nuclear-powered submarines.

L3Harris, which is based in Melbourne, Florida, is the prime contractor and design agent of the low-profile masts and will deliver engineering support for its LPM Type 20 and Type 24 systems to the US Navy, as part of the sea service’s ongoing undersea modernization initiatives.
