Columbus Air Force Base, a major pilot training base in the southern United States, indicated that the cause of the crash was still unknown and was under investigation.

The United States Air Force confirmed that a T-38 Talon II training jet from Columbus Air Force Base (AFB), Mississippi, crashed following an aerial “mishap” at around noon CST on Tuesday. Both the trainee pilot and the instructor ejected safely from the aircraft.

“The cause of the mishap is currently unknown and will be investigated by a Safety Investigation Board,” the base confirmed in a media statement. “More information will be released as it becomes available.”
