Part of the problem is that Trump often spends his weekends in Bedminster, New Jersey, near several major East Coast air travel hubs—raising the odds of an incident.

The North American Defense Command (NORAD) scrambled two F-16 Fighting Falcons on Sunday—not because of threats from Russia or China, or even to escort Santa Claus (that’s still several months away). Instead, the mission was to intercept a pair of “general aviation aircraft” that unintentionally flew the sensitive airspace around Bedminster, New Jersey, where President Donald Trump was expected to play golf at the club he owns.

The NORAD aircraft safely escorted the civilian planes out of the restricted airspace, which was closed due to the president’s arrival. NORAD confirmed that neither of the aircraft posed any threat to the president at any time.
