Life Is Too Short: Live

previous day

The world’s average life span in 2023 was 72.7 years. In Pakistan, it was 67.65 years. Let’s say we have 70 years to live. 70 years means 3650 weeks, 25550 days, 613200 hours, 36.8 million minutes and 2207.5 million seconds. That’s it. From start to finish, this is the finite time given to us if we are lucky. Anything above 70 years is a bonus, and less is a blight.

Let’s further study this journey. On average, humans sleep 1/3rd of their lives. That means 1217 weeks are spent in bed. We spend on average 400 weeks in our lifetime studying and preparing ourselves for a career. Let’s say we spend another 200 weeks doing ancillary work. All said, after putting in a great struggle, we are left with 3650-1817=1833 weeks to live Life. And if we minus the last 10 years after age 60, we are just looking at around 1300 weeks of the most important and rewarding period.

Two realities hit after reading the above. First, the clock is ticking, tik tok, tik tok, irrespective of what, who, where you are. The Universe is going about its business without any pause. The fabric of space is expanding. Our planet is hurtling through space in the Milky Way, which is travelling at 600 km per second. So, whatever we think or believe about ourselves as a species, it is just a self-created foolish illusion. But that’s another philosophical contour and merits a series of columns.

Secondly, let’s see what we are doing with the 1300 weeks we are given to enjoy Life. And to make........
