EDITORIAL: Heed state’s warnings about pursuit of ethics

If you ring an alarm bell once, you might get a few people’s attention, but most won’t react.

But if you ring the bell vigorously and loudly for a long period of time, then a lot more people start to become more alert to it, seek out the reasons for the alarms, and begin to take action.

When it comes to demanding ethical conduct among the people who work in and in conjunction with state government, New York and its Commission on Ethics in Lobbying in Government (COELIG) are closer to the first stage of alert.

If New Yorkers truly want their elected officials and the people they serve to conduct the public’s business in a responsible,........
