This company makes every fourth AC in a sweltering India. It still went looking for trouble

In June, Amber Enterprises said it would start assembling smartphones for Oppo India, Oneplus, and Realme. It’s an unusual bet for a company that’s spent over three decades building a business with very different economics.

Amber, headquartered in Gurugram, manufactures more than a quarter of the air conditioners sold in India and supplies to eight of the country’s 10 largest AC brands, including Voltas, Blue Star, LG, and Daikin. The AC segment also made up nearly 70% of Amber’s FY26 revenue of over Rs 12,000 crore ($1.2 billion).
