If a Ministry of Railways employee opens her inbox today, everything looks the same.
Her email address still ends in the usual gov.in. The login page still sports the credentials of the government’s technology partner, National Informatics Centre (NIC). Even the helpdesk number hasn’t changed.
But what’s decidedly different is who manages the government’s email stack.
By 1 April, 1.7 million of the 3.4 million email accounts NIC managed had been moved to the servers of Zoho Corporation, a 30-year-old technology company specialising in cloud-based business software.........
