If X is generating child abuse material, it’s time for everyone to leave

It’s time for governments, elected representatives and public bodies to leave X.

When Elon Musk bought the social media giant out, he claimed that it would soon be “the everything app”.

Nobody expected that the “everything” would include child sexual abuse materials (CSAM), but it does, in huge quantities.

Worse than that, it generates it on demand, with the tap of a few keys.

Grok, the AI on Musk’s X app, has been around for a while. For the most part, it’s used as a dubious authority in debates, with users typing “Grok, is this true?” below anything from a weather report to an analysis of the causes of the Franco-Prussian war.

Grok then springs into action and gives its verdict. So far, so standard for AI.

Grok is different in one important way, though. It does something that most of the other AIs won’t do.

Below any image, a user can ask it to alter the picture. It can ask for the person to be dressed differently or undressed entirely.

And that really is any picture, even if its subject never even intended it to be on social media.
