DOJ asks judge to approve Trump ballroom, citing WHCA dinner attack
The Justice Department (DOJ) asked a federal judge to dissolve his block on the White House ballroom following the weekend shooting at the Washington Hilton in a blistering motion filed late Monday.
U.S. District Judge Richard Leon has rejected the administration’s claims that the entire project must proceed for security reasons, limiting it to “below-ground construction” as a lawsuit proceeds.
Just before midnight, DOJ told Leon the plaintiffs suffer from “Trump Derangement Syndrome” and their lawsuit is “dangerous.”
“This Court should never have enjoined this Project, but now, after the Saturday night attempted assassination, which could have never taken place in the new facility, reasonable minds can no longer differ — The injunction must be dissolved,” the administration wrote.
The National Trust for Historic Preservation sued over the project late last year as Trump tore down the East Wing to make way for the ballroom space for state dinners, galas and other........
