(NewsNation) — Ticket prices for the upcoming FIFA World Cup in North America have sparked outrage among soccer fans, but recent data suggests some may benefit from declining secondary-market ticket prices.
The average resale price of the cheapest group-stage ticket has fallen 23 percent over the past month, from around $730 on April 20 to $560 on May 20, according to TicketData. This comes just a few weeks before the tournament kicks off June 11, with matches scheduled in the United States, Mexico and Canada.
“Prices are going down because there’s not enough purchasing going on right now to support the current sky-high prices,” TicketData founder Keith Pagello said, according to NBC News.
