Watch live: Trump meets with Irish leader, participates in Friends of Ireland event

President Trump will meet with Ireland’s Taoiseach Micheál Martin on Tuesday morning in honor of St. Patrick’s Day.

The event comes as many European leaders have balked at Trump’s request for help in the Strait of Hormuz amid the ongoing Iran conflict. Martin has thus far tried to strike a careful balance ahead of the White House meeting, according to NewsNation, while pushing for a peaceful resolution in the region and noting that the war does not have a U.N. mandate.

Trump will also participate in a Friends of Ireland luncheon later Tuesday afternoon, which is hosted by House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) on Capitol Hill, and will hold a Shamrock Bowl presentation in the evening.

The bilateral meeting is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. EDT.
