Watch live: Markwayne Mullin sworn in to lead DHS
President Trump on Wednesday afternoon will host a swearing-in ceremony for Sen. Markwayne Mullin (R-Okla.), who was confirmed on Monday to lead the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).
Trump tapped Mullin late last month to replace outgoing Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, who faced criticism over the department’s tactics during immigration enforcement operations. The fatal shootings of two U.S. citizens by federal agents in Minneapolis earlier this year also sparked calls from Democrats for DHS reforms and led to the ongoing partial government shutdown.
The Oklahoma Republican was met with a frosty reception from some colleagues during his confirmation hearing, but his nomination was ultimately advanced.
GOP Gov. Kevin Stitt on Tuesday appointed energy executive Alan Armstrong to represent the state in the Senate, replacing Mullin. By law, Armstrong will be barred from running for the seat in November.
The event is scheduled to begin at 1:30 p.m. EDT.
