Live updates: Trump presses on with Iran fight, pushes for help to open Strait of Hormuz

President Trump said late Sunday that he is not ready to declare victory against Iran, even though the U.S. has decimated the country militarily and economically. 

He’s pressing for global help in securing the Strait of Hormuz, as the 17-day war with Iran slows the flow of oil and gas. British Prime Minister Keir Starmer said Monday that the U.K. and European allies are working to develop a “viable” plan for opening the waterway, which he described as “not a simple task.”

Both the House and Senate are back in session Monday, when lawmakers will once again face fraught negotiations to end the partial government shutdown and fund the Department of Homeland Security.

The SAVE America Act is top of mind in the upper chamber, where Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-S.D.) is expected to duke it out with President Trump and his staunch allies over the sweeping voting legislation. Here’s what to expect on the Hill.

Trump on Monday will have lunch with the Kennedy Center board, sign legislation at 3 p.m. and hold a meeting with the U.S. ambassador to Japan.
