Most Americans think Iran war is going poorly: CBS poll

Most Americans believe that the current conflict against Iran is going poorly for the U.S., according to a new poll.

In the CBS News/YouGov poll, 57 percent of respondents said they believe the conflict is either ending up “somewhat badly” or “very badly” for their country, while 43 percent said the conflict is turning out “very well” or “somewhat well.”

On Monday, President Trump said he had not been in communication with Iran’s Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei in negotiations with the country.

“We’re dealing with a man who I believe is the most respected and the leader,” Trump told reporters in Palm Beach, Fla.

“We have not heard from the son,” he said.

Earlier in the day, Trump said that U.S. strikes on Iranian energy infrastructure would stop for a five-day period following “very good” and “productive” talks with Iranian leaders.

Trump said on Truth Social that the U.S. and Iran “over the last two days” had “conversations regarding a complete and total resolution of our hostilities in the Middle East.”

“Based on the tenor and tone of these in depth, detailed and constructive conversations,” Trump said, which would go on “throughout the week,” the president had “instructed the Department of War to postpone any and all military strikes against Iranian power plants and energy infrastructure for a five day period.”

In the CBS News/YouGov poll, 60 percent were against the American conflict with Iran, while 40 percent were for it.

The CBS News/YouGov poll took place from March 17 and 20, featuring 3,335 people and a margin of error of plus or minus 2.1 percentage points.
