Greene: Trump ‘not the same man that we supported’ for past 10 years

Former Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.), formerly a strong supporter of President Trump, said the president is “not the same man that we supported” for a decade.

“What has to happen is the American people have to wake up to the truth. So, they — the American people have to take the blinders off, because, look, we’ve supported Trump for 10 years now — or longer,” Greene told conspiracy theorist Alex Jones on his Infowars show.

“We have supported this man through thick and thin. I mean, he was indicted. They convicted him, a convicted felon. They impeached him. I mean, all the things that happened, we supported him through thick and thin, and that has glued people, glued people to think they have to support him through anything and everything,” she added.

“And that’s wrong. That’s absolutely wrong. The American people have to open their eyes and deal with reality and deal with truth. And the truth is, look, you may have supported President Trump for 10 years, like I did and like you have, but this is not the same man. This is not the same man that we supported.”

Once an intense supporter of Trump, Greene has turned on the president over the last year. In recent days, she has criticized the president over his statements about the U.S.-Israeli war in Iran.

In a Truth Social post Tuesday, Trump said that “a whole civilization will die tonight, never to be brought back again” if Iran did not meet a deadline for a deal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz. Greene, in response to Trump, called his comments “evil and madness.”

On Sunday, she had also criticized a separate message from the president to Iran, stating that he was “insane” and “not a Christian.” Earlier this week, she pushed for him to be removed from office via the 25th Amendment.

Greene has also said Trump’s Make America Great Again (MAGA) slogan was a “lie” and that the first year of his second term has been centered on appeasing wealthy supporters.

Greene resigned from her seat in January, triggering a special election that was held Tuesday and was won by a Republican endorsed by the president.

The Hill has reached out to the White House for comment about Greene’s remarks to Jones.
