Trump calls New York Times reporter ‘fake guy’: ‘It’s sort of treasonous what you write’
President Trump on Friday slammed what he described as “treasonous” media coverage of the U.S. conflict with Iran, accusing New York Times reporter David Sanger of misrepresenting the military operation.
“I had a total military victory, but the fake news, guys like you, write incorrectly,” Trump told Sanger aboard Air Force One on the way home from Beijing, calling the newspaper’s chief Washington correspondent a “fake guy.”
“I actually think it’s sort of treasonous what you write,” the president added, labeling the Times and CNN “the worst.”
The critique came as Sanger pressed Trump on the U.S. military’s intensive campaign against Iran, noting that it did not achieve political change in the country — one of the president’s several stated objectives at the outset of the war.
