DOJ seeks to strip US citizenship from diplomat who spied for Cuba
The Trump administration is seeking to revoke the U.S. citizenship of a former diplomat who admitted to being a spy for the Cuban government.
The Justice Department filed a complaint against former U.S. Ambassador Victor Manuel Rocha in the Southern District of Florida on Thursday, alleging he illegally obtained naturalization by misrepresenting himself in the process.
“During the naturalization process, Rocha represented that he had never knowingly committed any crime for which he had not been arrested, had no affiliation with the Communist Party, and believed in the U.S. Constitution and the form of government of the United States,” the filing states. “None of these were true.”
Rocha, who served as U.S. ambassador to Bolivia from 2000 to 2002, was charged in December 2023 for serving as a covert agent of Cuba’s intelligence service.
