Appeals court blocks Trump administration from revoking TPS for Haitians until at least Monday

A federal appeals court has temporarily stopped the Trump administration from ending deportation protections for hundreds of thousands of Haitian migrants living in the U.S., at least for another few days.

More than 300,000 Haitians were set to lose their Temporary Protected Status (TPS) on Friday following a Supreme Court ruling that found the Trump administration could terminate the designations for individuals from the island and Syria. Work permits were also set to expire then.

But a three-judge panel for the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit on Wednesday denied the administration’s request to stay a lower court order that postponed the TPS revocations while legal challenges continued.

The judges, two of whom were nominated by former President Biden and one by President Trump in his first term, blocked the federal government from stripping TPS before at least July 27.
