Trump rips Cassidy as ‘disloyal disaster’ ahead of high stakes primary

President Trump took another swing at Sen. Bill Cassidy (R-La.) on Saturday, calling the incumbent a “disloyal disaster” ahead of Louisiana’s high stakes primary election.

“Bill Cassidy is a sleazebag, a terrible guy, who is BAD FOR LOUISIANA,” Trump wrote in a post on Truth Social. “Now he’s going to get CLOBBERED, hopefully, in today’s BIG election, by two great people!!!”

Trump has endorsed Rep. Julia Letlow (R-La.), who he encouraged to jump into the race and challenge Cassidy earlier this year. Louisiana State Treasurer John Fleming is also running for the GOP ticket.

The incumbent has fallen behind his Republican challengers in the polls, receiving only 21 percent of support in a recent Emerson College survey. Fleming and Letlow garnered 28 percent and 27 percent in this poll, respectively.
