Former Prince Andrew prepped on trade role qualifications after Epstein

(NewsNation) — Former Prince Andrew may have been prepped to answer questions on his lack of qualifications for the U.K. trade envoy role following his appointment after details of his friendship with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein became public, according to confidential British government papers released Thursday.

One document entitled “Brief for Duke of York interview with the Times” from March 2002 suggested answers appear to have been created for possible press questions regarding his lack of business experience. 

An answer included saying he had “no hesitation in taking up the role. But, given my lack of direct business experience, was keen to ensure a full period of induction” if asked how he was approached for the role.

It also suggested saying it has “been a steep learning curve for me. But I relish the challenge. Hope to make a difference.” 

If asked why someone more qualified wasn’t placed in the position, the suggested answer stated the “importance of the Duke of York’s involvement lies in the high profile and commitment he is able to give to this as a member of the royal family.” 

Mountbatten-Windsor was arrested earlier this year after he was accused of sending trade reports to Epstein in 2010.
