Did Tyler Robinson prosecutors violate gag order?

(NewsNation) — A Utah judge will hold an evidentiary hearing Friday over whether prosecutors violated a gag order by making comments to the media about the criminal case against Tyler Robinson, who is accused of killing conservative political activist Charlie Kirk. 

Lawyers for Robinson requested State District Judge Tony Graf to look into comments made by Deputy County Attorney Chris Ballard to outlets, including TMZ and Fox News. 

Robinson’s defense attorneys called Ballard’s actions a contempt of court. 

They took issue with public statements the prosecutors made, including an interview on “Fox & Friends,” and said the lawyers must hand over all internal communications regarding media outreach.

The judge found that defense made a sufficient preliminary showing the prosecutors might have violated the pretrial publicity rule and ordered an evidentiary hearing to determine whether any violations were knowing and intentional.
