Key Senate Republican: Passing reconciliation 3.0 ‘a very small needle to thread’

Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wis.) on Sunday said that passing the latest iteration of a reconciliation bill through the Senate is “a very small needle to thread.”

“America’s expecting us to govern and we’re going to have to recognize Democrats will not help us do it, and we’re going to do things on our own,” Johnson said on Fox News’s “Sunday Morning Futures” to host Maria Bartiromo. “That’s where we’re talking about reconciliation 3.0, which will not be easy to do. It’s going to be a very small needle to thread.”

Johnson labeled Democrats as being “obnoxiously obstructionist since President Trump took office” and blamed them for the 43-day government shutdown from September to November 2025.
