Google Maps on Saturday changed the name of Lake Ontario to “Lake America” for U.S. users, while keeping the name intact for Canadian Google users and carrying both names for international users, following President Trump’s executive order to rename the Great Lake.

The tech giant cited its name change to the U.S. Geographic Names Information System’s (GNIS) formal renaming.

“Since we update Google Maps to reflect name changes in official government sources, which is GNIS for the U.S., people using Maps in the U.S. will see ‘Lake America,’ those in Canada will continue to see ‘Lake Ontario,’ and those outside of the U.S. and Canada will see both names,” the company said in a statement.

Trump signed an executive order to rename the Great Lake, “effective immediately,” amid his trade war with Canada, which has retaliated with its own........
