Spirit Airlines is dead — thanks a lot, Elizabeth Warren! 

Spirit Airlines is officially dead. The low-cost airline has ceased all operations, canceled all flights, and ended all customer service. That’s bad news for the airline’s customers and also its 17,000 people. 

But I assume liberal and progressive Democrats must be thrilled. After all, this outcome is 100 percent due to their own actions. We can lay this death at the feet of Elizabeth Warren and Joe Biden. They are responsible for it. They arranged it. They should be celebrating. After all, it’s what they wanted, isn’t it? 

Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy gets to the heart of the matter here. And he’s completely correct. In 2022, Spirit Airlines knew it couldn’t survive unless it merged with another airline, and accepted a multibillion-dollar deal from JetBlue to acquire the company. That deal would have saved Spirit.  

But Biden’s antitrust division said no, can’t have that — it would lead to monopolization in the industry, which of course was a ridiculous complaint, since Spirit was going underwater if it couldn’t merge. But the DOJ sued the company, and a judge sided with the federal government, blocking that merger.
