Haley Stevens: ‘The voters voted, we’ve got to move on’

Rep. Haley Stevens (D-Mich.) on Wednesday said it is time to “move on” after she was defeated in Michigan’s Senate Democratic primary last week.

Asked during an appearance on NewsNation about her decision to endorse Abdul El-Sayed following the loss — and despite controversy surrounding some of the progressive’s actions — Stevens sought to distance herself from the race.

“I’m a Democrat. You want drama in news. … Look, I’m just trying to help people. I am finishing off my last five months in Congress,” she told host Elizabeth Vargas. “I love this country. I love the state of Michigan.”

El-Sayed narrowly clinched the Democratic nod in the Aug. 4 race, bringing in 48.5 percent of the vote to the lawmaker’s 47.5 percent, according to Decision Desk HQ.

Stevens said she is now “focused” on other things, like helping El-Sayed beat former Rep. Mike Rogers (R-Mich.) in November.
