Tommy DeCarlo, lead singer of Boston, dies at 60
(NEXSTAR) – Tommy DeCarlo, the vocalist who took over as lead singer of the rock group Boston after the death of the band’s original lead singer, has died at the age of 60, his family announced.
“It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of our Dad, Tommy DeCarlo, on Monday, March 9th, 2026,” reads a statement attributed to his family. “After being diagnosed with brain cancer last September, he fought with incredible strength and courage right up until the very end.”
They also asked that fans “respect our family’s privacy as we grieve and support one another.”

DeCarlo began performing with the “More Than a Feeling” hitmakers after the death of original vocalist Brad Delp in 2007. Founding “Boston” member Tom Scholz said he asked DeCarlo to join after hearing a demo and a few covers the singer had posted to Myspace.
“I would have never believed this could happen in a million years,” DeCarlo said, according to the band’s official website. “The next thing I knew I was on my way to Boston to sing with BOSTON … are you kidding me?”
The band had also posted a tribute to the late artist at the top of the site’s homepage.
DeCarlo’s son, Tommy DeCarlo Jr., revealed earlier this year that his father had been diagnosed with cancer after experiencing a “sudden brain bleed” in September 2025 and needed an emergency craniotomy.
“[A]nd during that process, doctors discovered melanoma on his brain and lungs,” the younger DeCarlo said.
The singer also suffered another brain bleed in November 2025, and had been receiving cancer treatment after recovering, according to a GoFundMe organized by his family.
“Thank you to everyone who has reached out, checked in, prayed, and supported us in any way,” Tommy DeCarlo Jr. wrote at the time. “It truly means more than we can put into words.”
