Congress still without TSA deal to end shutdown, GOP in turmoil
Thousands of TSA workers may finally see a paycheck this week, and for travelers stuck in long airport lines, that relief cannot come fast enough. But just to be clear, this is not a solution — it is a temporary patch on a much deeper problem.
Border czar Tom Homan was recently on CNN laying out what he says is an immediate plan to get TSA agents paid after weeks of working without compensation during the partial government shutdown.
“Yea I talked to Secretary Markwayne Mullin yesterday and there is a plan to get these TSA agents paid, hopefully by tomorrow, Tuesday. So yeah, it’s good news, because these TSA officers, they’re struggling. They can’t feed their families or pay their rent. Your heart goes out to them because they’re sitting there right now, working very hard and not being paid by members of the Congress that are on vacation, getting paid.”
That contrast here is pretty hard to ignore. Essential workers are showing up every day, keeping airports secure, while not knowing when their next paycheck will arrive, as lawmakers leave Washington to enjoy time off — still without a deal.
