US hockey player knocks White House TikTok: ‘Clearly fake’
Brady Tkachuk said Thursday that a video posted on the White House’s official TikTok page appearing to show the American hockey player speaking ill of Canadians after the U.S. won gold during the Winter Olympics was “clearly fake.”
The video, which provides a disclaimer that it contains “AI-generated media,” used dubbed audio over a real video of Tkachuk, depicting him saying, “They booed our national anthem, so I had to come out and teach those maple syrup eating f—s a lesson.”
“Canada, we own you little bro,” the dubbed audio continued.
The Ottawa Senators captain helped the U.S. to win gold over Canada for the first time since 1980 on Sunday in Milan, Italy.
The TikTok video, which contains the caption “Silver does NOT shine just as bright,” had more than 11 million views as of Friday morning.
“Well, it’s clearly fake,” Tkachuk said Thursday. “Because it’s not my voice, not my lips moving. … I’m not in control of any of those accounts, and I know that those words would never come out of my mouth. So, I can’t do anything about it.”
