Canada opens Gordie Howe bridge without US; Trump says that’s ‘fine’

President Trump said Friday it was “fine” that Canada excluded the U.S. from its ceremony marking the opening of the Gordie Howe International Bridge after the Trump administration threatened a 50 percent tariff on certain Canadian imports.

“Canada disinvited the United States of America to the opening of the Gordie Howe Bridge, which is fine, considering they are paying substantial TARIFFS to the United States,” he wrote on Truth Social.

Trump said the original agreement governing the bridge “no longer stands,” arguing it had been “terribly negotiated” by a previous administration.

“We changed the terms of the Deal so that the United States of America now gets 50% of the Profit,” he added.
