Pentagon removes ex-DNI Clapper’s name from auditorium at DIA headquarters

The Pentagon has stripped the name of former Director of National Intelligence (DNI) James Clapper from an auditorium named in his honor at the headquarters of the Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA). 

The Defense Department (DOD) removed Clapper’s name from the “Clapper Leadership Hall” at Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling and named it “Thomas Knowlton Leadership Hall” this month, according to a Pentagon official. 

Knowlton is considered the U.S.’s first intelligence professional; his unit garnered intelligence during the early days of the Revolutionary War. 

Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling is located in Washington, D.C. and DIA’s headquarters there opened in 1983. 

The DIA did not immediately respond to The Hill’s request for comment.
