Israel hits petrochemical plant in Iran ahead of Trump deadline
Israel hit a major petrochemical plant in southern Iran on Monday, just ahead of President Trump’s deadline for Tehran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz to all shipping traffic.
The Israeli military struck the largest petrochemical facility in Iran, Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz said, which is located in the South Pars natural gas field that Iran shares with Qatar.
The gas field, located in the Persian Gulf, is the largest in the world.
Iranian state media reported that there were no casualties and no significant damage.
The strikes, which hit the coastal town of Asaluyeh, mark the second time that the Israeli military has targeted the Iranian facility. Israel also struck the area in mid-March, prompting Iran to strike at a Qatari gas facility.
At the time, Trump said he was not informed of the strike before it was launched, adding that Israel would not hit additional Iranian gas facilities.
But over the weekend, the president railed against Iran over choking off the Strait of Hormuz and threatened to hit the nation’s infrastructure.
“Tuesday will be Power Plant Day, and Bridge Day, all wrapped up in one, in Iran. There will be nothing like it!!! Open the F—in’ Strait, you crazy bastards, or you’ll be living in Hell – JUST WATCH! Praise be to Allah. President DONALD J. TRUMP,” Trump said in a Sunday post on Truth Social.
Trump threatened to rain “all hell” down on Iran as Washington heads toward the president’s self-imposed deadline on Monday.
