Hegseth rallies troops for ‘any possible contingency’ in Cuba
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth on Wednesday said the future of Cuba is in the hands of President Trump and Havana’s leadership amid increased U.S. pressure on the communist-ruled island.
“No matter what, the Department of War is going to be prepared and postured for any possible contingency,” Hegseth told troops during a visit to the U.S. Naval Station at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, using the alternative name for the Defense Department.
Hegseth is the latest senior Trump administration official to visit Cuba following a trip by U.S. Southern Command head Gen. Francis Donovan in late May and CIA Director John Ratcliffe’s visit earlier last month.
