Goodell asked to testify about NFL broadcast deals before House panel

Lawmakers want to hear from NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell about the league’s media rights dealings, a subject that has faced increasing scrutiny from fans and members of Congress as the cost of viewing games continues to skyrocket.

In a letter to Goodell sent this week, Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) asked for the commissioner’s testimony at a hearing next week that the House Judiciary chairman said will examine the ways in which the distribution of professional sports has evolved since the Sports Broadcasting Act of 1961 was passed by Congress.

“It will also examine the extent to which the antitrust exemption created by the SBA has been used by the professional sports leagues to harm consumers and whether potential legislative remedies may be needed to........
