Lindsay Clancy attorney, judge argue over jury instructions

(NewsNation) – The judge in the Lindsay Clancy trial will not have a private hearing with a holdout juror, he told attorneys Friday in a heated exchange with the defense. He also said future notes from the jury should refrain from mentioning the status of deliberations.

The jury was then sent off for a seventh day of deliberations Friday morning.

Judge William Sullivan decided not to remove the juror after defense attorney Kevin Reddington said the juror should be booted for refusing to follow instructions on reasonable doubt.

He instead said the jury would again be reminded of their duties, stating he had read them the instructions on how to come to a decision beyond “reasonable doubt.”

Reddington called Sullivan’s reading of those jury instructions “soft” and asked the judge to do it more “forcefully.”

“What do you want me to do? Get a brass band?” Sullivan said in the heated exchange.
