Sabato Crystal Ball moves Florida Senate race to safely Republican after Nixon win

Election handicapper Sabato’s Crystal Ball shifted the Florida Senate race in favor of Republicans following an unexpected Tuesday win for a democratic socialist in the primary. 

State Rep. Angie Nixon (D-Fla.) won the Democratic nomination over Alex Vindman, the former director for European Affairs at the National Security Council, in a complete shakeup that notched another victory for the party’s progressive faction.

Her win prompted Sabato’s Crystal Ball to move the race from “likely Republican” to “safely Republican.”

Nixon served three terms in the Florida House representing District 13, a predominantly Black area that includes her hometown of Jacksonville, immediately after the COVID-19 pandemic.
