Where the last 8 p.m. sunset of 2026 has already happened, and which cities are next

(NEXSTAR) – As the U.S. stares at our clocks in anticipation, waiting to see if permanent daylight saving time becomes the law of the land, some are seeing their summer sunsets slip away.

Many have already seen their final post-8 p.m. sunset until spring.

Even if our clocks locked on daylight saving time year-round, we would see our sunsets slide into the 7 o’clock hour as summer wanes. Rather, it’s winter sunsets that would be impacted under permanent DST.

Because we are currently observing daylight saving time, the sun has been setting after 8 p.m. (or in some cases, 9 p.m.) for much of the summer.

Of the 33 cities analyzed by Nexstar, 10 have already seen their final sunset in the 8 o’clock hour of the year, according to data from NOAA’s Solar Calculator. Las Vegas last saw a sunset at 8 p.m. or later on July 11. For Green Bay and Burlington, Vermont, the final 8 p.m.-or-later sunset happened on Thursday.

While most others will see their final 8 p.m. sunset later this month, a few lucky cities are spared until early September. In Grand........
