Over 11,000 cases of cyclosporiasis suspected in US: The states seeing spikes

(NEXSTAR) — The confirmed number of cyclosporiasis cases linked to the ongoing outbreak impacting at least five states has now climbed into the thousands, with officials warning the true number of cases could be higher than 11,000.

In an update, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported that 4,173 cases across 41 states have been linked to the outbreak. On Monday, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration confirmed five separate clusters of illnesses were under investigation, one of which is linked to Taylor Farms lettuce.

The FDA also maintains that while dozens of states are impacted, the outbreak investigation has been linked to “at least” five states: Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, West Virginia and Kentucky.

“Many of the additional cases have been reported by Michigan and Ohio,” the CDC said in its latest update. Those states comprise the bulk of the more than 12,000 cases of cyclosporiasis health officials across the country have reported so far this........
