IKEA to open 16 new locations in 2026: Here’s where

(NEXSTAR) – Love wandering through staged bedrooms and kitchens, fantasizing about redesigning your home with the likes of a Hyltarp sofa and a Hägernäs bar table? You may soon be able to satisfy that desire at a new IKEA store opening near you.

There are only a few dozen IKEA stores in the U.S., ranging in size from expansive warehouses to smaller “Plan & order points” and pickup-only locations.

Last year, IKEA opened several smaller-format stores – the store in Beaverton, Oregon, for example, fits into a shopping strip with just a few stalls for parking.

On Tuesday, the Swedish-founded and Netherlands-based retailer announced four new planned store locations, in addition to the six stores it already planned to open this year.

It comes after IKEA stores in the U.S. performed well despite “a challenging external environment” in 2025, Rob Olson, Interim CEO of IKEA U.S., said in a press release that pointed to “increased inflation and waning consumer confidence.”

“We strengthened our ability to serve customers through new store formats, digital innovation and expanded rewards, all while reinforcing our commitment to communities and the environment,” Olson said, adding that the company plans to “build on this momentum, focusing on continued investment in the U.S.  to make IKEA more affordable, accessible and sustainable” in 2026.

Among the communities getting an IKEA store in 2026 are Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Huntsville, Alabama, which will be each state’s first taste of Swedish meatballs and assembly instructions known to cause ire online.

Here are the 10 cities where IKEA will open new locations this year:

Culver City, California

Gurnee Mills, Illinois

Fort Collins, Colorado

University Park, Texas

IKEA didn’t list the opening dates for these stores, but the online listing for the Huntsville location shows it will open next week on February 25. The Chantilly store is slated to open in spring, while the Webster location is slated for a summer opening, the company said in October.

Additional “Plan & order points” are also expected to open this year. IKEA previously announced new locations are planned in:

Pleasanton, California – Expected summer 2026

South Bay (San Diego), California – Expected spring 2026

Escondido, California – Expected spring 2026

Newnan, Georgia – Expected spring 2026

Florence, Kentucky – Expected spring 2026

Media, Pennsylvania – Expected spring 2026

The stores’ smaller footprints “make it easier for the IKEA customer to shop with us more frequently, or in some cases, for the first time ever,” a spokesperson previously explained to Nexstar.

“While customers will not find the entire IKEA product range on-site, the small store format offers the most relevant range of products and provides digital access to everything that IKEA offers,” they added.

There are IKEA experts available to help customers “plan and order home furnishing solutions,” though you would not be able to take home your new furniture that same day. Instead, you’ll be able to schedule delivery or order pick-up at the same location. The IKEA locations also serve as pick-up points for online orders.

Though IKEA is growing, the company announced earlier this month that it would close its Memphis, Tennessee, store in May as “part of a strategic shift to build a more affordable, accessible, and sustainable future.” It’s the state’s only IKEA store.

As of mid-February, IKEA has more than 50 stores in the U.S., 29 plan and order points, and 57 pick-up points. In total, IKEA can be found in more than 30 states.
