Trump wastes his time and our money on trivial pursuits
Instead of focusing on the most important and challenging duties of his job, President Trump is irresponsibly and foolishly wasting his time and millions of our tax dollars on trivial pursuits.
Our 79-year-old president seems unable to distinguish between what is important and what isn’t. He rarely lets anything, no matter how important, interfere with his costly habit of attending sporting events or visiting the golf courses he owns in Florida, New Jersey and elsewhere most weekends.
Trump’s warped sense of priorities was on display recently when he and Secretary of State Marco Rubio traveled to Miami to watch UFC mixed martial arts fights.
At the same time, Vice President JD Vance was leading a team negotiating with Iran to end the war of choice Trump and Israel had launched. It was strange that Rubio wasn’t at the talks. It was even stranger still that Trump wasn’t in the White House monitoring the critical negotiations and conferring over a secure phone line with Vance to formulate responses to the Iranian negotiators.
Americans would have been shocked if President John F. Kennedy had gone to a wrestling match during the Cuban Missile Crisis, or if President Ronald Reagan had skipped nuclear arms control negotiations with Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev to go to a boxing match. But if Trump had been president during those critical times, I’m guessing he might have stuck with his weekend recreation routine.
Last year, Trump became the first sitting president to attend the Super Bowl. He also attended the Daytona 500, the Ryder Cup, two UFC matches, a Washington........
