Trump is a modern-day Caligula
HALIFAX—It is high time that United States President Donald Trump be called out for what he actually is: a modern day Caligula.
Caligula was Rome’s third Emperor who ruled the Empire for four years. His main goal in office was to increase his own unrestrained power.
Caligula was famously self-indulgent, extravagant, and sadistic. He had no respect for the Roman Senate, and even planned to make his horse a consul. He gradually evolved into a tyrant who demanded to be worshipped as a god.

What interested Caligula? Building. He devoted a great deal of his attention to what have been described as “ambitious” public works.
He built race tracks, theatres, amphitheatres, roads and parks. The purpose? To stamp his indelible mark on Rome—ego-liberation on an imperial scale.
Sound a little like Trump’s Washington?
It’s all about his obsession with legacy. That’s why he’s building a massive ballroom on the White House grounds without Congressional approval and despite a court order to get approval. A ballroom. Just what a country that is $40-trillion in debt needs, right?
That’s why he’s renovating the Kennedy Center—provided his name goes on the building dedicated to JFK. Never mind that this monstrous egotism is likely unconstitutional and probably illegal.
