The Indian contagion

On August 15, 2024, I produced an hour-long video commentary for my YouTube channel (@fptalks) and tried to publish it. For some magical reason, it would not upload from Pakistan. I used several service providers, VPNs and other means. When all attempts failed, despite trying for nearly 20 hours, I gave it to a friend travelling abroad to try to publish from there. They dutifully did this within hours and did not encounter any issues. "I initially did not want to touch the Adani, Hindenburg, and SEBI issue to avoid alienating anyone, given the immense power of the Adani Group and the Modi government. However, watching the Indian media mishandle this story, often missing the forest for the trees due to a lack of competence, made me realise that a much bigger picture is being ignored.

Last January, Hindenburg Research released a meticulously documented report accusing the Adani Group of cooking its books and manipulating stocks. Hindenburg has a history of targeting weak or manipulative companies, taking short positions, and profiting when those stocks fall. They have a strong track record of bringing down corporate giants, and now they have released fresh allegations.

The real origin of this conversation lies in global market projections and fears of a wider recession. Looking around the world, the US and European markets do not currently have the fundamental exposure that would trigger a severe global economic collapse. In Asia, Japan's economic stagnation is already factored........
