One of the most entrenched lawmakers, not just in the Democratic Party but in Congress, may finally be meeting her match after decades of landslide victories.

Democratic California Rep. Maxine Waters is so old (87) and has been in Congress so long (over three decades) that when she was first elected in 1991, George H. W. Bush was president.

Which is why Politico described Waters as “an institution of Los Angeles Democratic politics.” She has gone virtually unchallenged over the years, holding down her fort in a South Los Angeles congressional district, winning landslide after landslide.
